Blessed to get a wake-up call to change my heart and attitude, even though it may be too late to salvage the bridges I’ve burned.

You can dream about it or you can go out and make it happen.

EAT BETTER. EAT LESS. MOVE MORE.

I’m dropping weight right now (25 pounds thus far, 5 to 10 more to go) simply because of those three things above.

The fact that a thing is difficult must be for us the more reason for doing it.

One thing I know…

100% of my work and drive wouldn’t exist if I sat on my ass 6 years ago. Push yourself. Stretch yourself. Go explore this beautiful world.

I can’t entirely pinpoint the source, but lately I have been intent on finding ways to simplify my life. Clothes, music, twitter, etc. In some ways it is all just ‘stuff’ that gets in the way of living life and enjoying the people and experiences that surround me. If I let myself be overwhelmed with messages and distractions, I will not be ready for that beautiful moment with my family or the opportunity to care for a friend in need.

All that to say I’ve decided to intentionally take on just one personal project in 2011. It’s nerve-wracking to commit this idea to a public forum where I can be held in check. I am adopting a ‘One Camera, One Lens, One Black & White Film’ approach for the year. I was inspired by this post about having a ‘Leica year’ and while I won’t be buying a Leica (a nice byproduct of this project is to stop buying unnecessary gear) I will be shooting with a camera I have grown to love.

Tri-X 400 is the film. An 80mm on a Mamiya 645 is the camera and lens combo. It might be a few weeks (or months) before I begin to see the results, but a change of pace is what I am looking for. I don’t want to be stuck behind a computer this year - editing photos, researching gear, fawning over the latest and greatest. I want to be a husband, a father, a son, a friend. I want to meet new people and explore the 95% of Nashville that I haven’t yet seen.

2011 will be a year of exciting change for me. I have no idea what the year will hold but I am committed to making it awesome.

I am only one man. I cannot do it all.

Accepting this has relaxed my mind and allowed me to enjoy the journey.
